The Porsche Design TwinBag is one of the most exclusive bags around this season. Premium quality was a key focus in the selection of materials. The leather is tanned using an ecological process, the lining is made from soft Alcantara and the metal fittings are finished using an elaborate electroplating procedure.

After vegetable tanning, the selected leather varieties – exclusive ostrich leather, elegant crocodile leather and modern calf leather – are processed with the highest precision and utmost attention to quality.

An elaborate electroplating process is used to produce six different finishes for the timeless metal fittings which are then polished by hand. The fittings are made from precious metals, such as gold, white gold, rose gold, matt gold, silver and chrome.

The many different combinations of fine leather varieties and finishes result in a very distinctive look for each TwinBag model.

Porsche congratulates works driver Hans Herrmann turns 85

As a pilot of historic racecars, Hans Herrmann still takes part in many vintage car events for the Porsche Museum.

As a pilot of historic racecars, Hans Herrmann still takes part in many vintage car events for the Porsche Museum.

Stuttgart. Hans Herrmann, one of the most successful and best known works racing drivers at Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, will celebrate his 85th birthday on 23 February 2013. Born in Stuttgart in 1928, this long-distance specialist was considered one of the most successful and dependable racing drivers of his era.

His motorsports career lasted from 1952 to 1970, during which Hans Herrmann won over 80 overall and class victories.

Hans Herrmann started his racing career in early 1952, piloting a privately-owned Porsche 356 1500 in mountain races, rallies, and endurance races. A year later he and Richard von Frankenberg took overall fifth place in the Lyon-Charbonnieres rally.

Porsche racing chief Huschke von Hanstein thereupon hired him for the Porsche Works team. Herrmann drove the 550 Spyder at the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans, and together with Helmut Glöckler came in first in the 1.5 litre displacement category right off the bat.

In 1953, at the age of 26 Herrmann won the title of German Sportscar Champion and got the attention of legendary Mercedes-Benz racing chief Alfred Neubauer, who hired him for his works team. Hans Herrmann piloted the Mercedes W 196 Silver Arrow in the premier category of motorsports, teaming with top drivers like Juan Manuel Fangio and Karl Kling. Parallel to that, in 1954 he continued to drive for Porsche in the smaller displacement categories. In the 550 Spyder he won widely noted class victories in the Mille Miglia and Carrera Panamericana.

When Daimler-Benz pulled out of racing in 1955, Herrmann went on to drive Formula 1 races for Maserati and BRM, as well as other races as a Borgward works driver. In 1957 he became European Vice “Bergmeister” – Mountan Champion – before returning to the Porsche works team in 1959. Together with Joakim Bonnier, in 1960 Herrmann took the overall victory at the Targa Florio in a Porsche 718 RS60 Spyder, and the Formula 2 championship in a Porsche 718/2. He also won the 12 Hours of Sebring with Olivier Gendebien. In 1963 he left Porsche KG and joined Carlo Abarth’s racing team.

In 1966 Herrmann returned to the Porsche works team, not only driving in all the major long-distance races and European Mountain Championship races, but also doing countless test drives in Weissach. With pilots Hans Herrmann, Jo Siffert, Vic Elford and Rolf Stommelen, in 1969 the team took the World Sports Prototype Championship for the first time. In 1970, at his eleventh Le Mans race Herrmann capped off his career with a bang, winning the first overall victory for Zuffenhausen in a Porsche 917 KH.

He took this motorsports achievement as a suitable time to retire from active racing, after 42 years on the track. Since then Hans Herrmann has lived with his wife Magdalena near Stuttgart, successfully operating his company “Hans Herrmann Autotechnik.” As a pilot of historic racecars, he also takes part in many vintage car events for the Porsche Museum.

TECHART presents Porsche 911 Carrera 4 models at world premiere Geneva Motor Show, March 5th – 17th, 2013

341fedd33002c32f8b1bc3905e0dbe7e

Leonberg, February 2013 – TECHART Automobildesign presents its personalization program for Porsche 911 Carrera 4 models.

20

In line with this premiere the new TECHART Exhaust System Racing with valve control and double centre tailpipes as well as the TECHART Noselift front axle lift system make their debuts. As a tribute to the Porsche models of the 1970s TECHART shows its interpretation of the 400 hp Porsche 911 Carrera 4S in legendary Emerald Green colour to public at 83rd Geneva International Motor Show from March 5 to 17 2013.

 1

Design.

The new TECHART Exhaust System Racing with valve control and double centre tailpipes replaces Porsche’s standard exhaust system and gives the car a more aggressive and sporty look, which reminds of RSR models.

2_2

Controlled by the sport button at centre console the acoustic performance of the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S becomes clearly more sonorous and throaty.

14

The exhaust system is also drivable in closed condition. As sole manufacturer TECHART currently offers this valve-controlled exhaust system with double centre tailpipes for all Porsche 911 Carrera S models.

12

Also available: TECHART sport end mufflers Racing and sport exhaust system with valve control in combination with double flow TECHART Sport Tailpipes. Both systems are recognizable by black chromed or polished TECHART Sport Tailpipes in typical double-oval design.

11

TECHART Sport Tailpipes are also available for the standard exhaust system of Porsche 911 Carrera S and 4S, as well as for the Porsche sport exhaust system of all current 911 Carrera models.

16

By pressing a button at centre console the TECHART Noselift System enables 60 mm more ground clearance at front spoiler by raising the vehicle level. System can be activated when stationary and during the ride. Above 60 km/h the vehicle lowers again automatically. Due to the hydraulic unit’s compact construction boot capacity remains the same.

17

At speed of 140 km/h the two-piece TECHART Front Spoiler I with integrated splitter reduces lift on front axle of the Porsche 911 Carrera models by 5 kg. At same speed the TECHART Rear Spoiler II (out of three versions in total),

18

in combination with the TECHART Diffuser, generates additional 17.5 kg down force at the vehicle’s rear. Up to top speed this figure increases to 76 kg.

22

Two Aero Wings, integrated into the front air inlet vents lend the 911 Carrera models a dynamic shaft outline. TECHART Side Skirts as well as trims for headlights and side mirrors set visual highlights all-around.

23

For Porsche 911 models TECHART offers the TECHART Formula 5-spoke light alloy wheel in 20- and 21-inch sizes, as well as the TECHART Formula III 5-twin spoke forged light alloy wheel. A weight advantage of up to 15 % compared to a cast wheel and thus a reduction in unsprung mass contributes directly to an increase in driving dynamics. Beside standard and individual colours, the TECHART Formula III forged wheel is also available in new bi-colour design and burnished glossy smooth finish.

 24

Interior.

The TECHART in-house manufactory transfers the prestigious exterior colour of the Carrera 4S with precise craftsmanship into the vehicle’s interior. Whether door sills and back rests for black-leathered sport seats Plus in Emerald Green or door panels in black leather and green decorative stitching, all vehicle details take up the colour theme consistently. As it is for the ergonomically shaped TECHART

19

3-spokes sport steering wheel. Covered by black leather and Alcantara with green stitching, as well as integrated TECHART paddle shifters in black matt finish with green symbols, it forms a visual symbiosis with black and green TECHART Dials for instruments and Sport Chrono.

New Porsche 911 RSR successfully concludes test drives – Season preparations on the finish straight

Test drive Porsche 911 RSR

Press Release

21/02/2013

Test drive Porsche 911 RSR

Stuttgart. The development of the new Porsche 911 RSR based on the current generation 991 model is nearly complete. On the Sebring International Raceway in Florida/USA the GTE race car from Weissach completed another successful test on Thursday.

The successor to the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR will be run exclusively by the Porsche AG Team Manthey works squad at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in the World Endurance Championship (WEC).The vehicle celebrates its race debut on April 14 at the WEC season-opener in Silverstone.

M13_0164
Sharing driving duties at Sebring were Porsche works drivers Richard Lietz (Austria) and Patrick Pilet (France). Lietz contests the WEC including Le Mans with Marc Lieb (Germany) at the wheel of the 911 RSR with the starting number 92. Patrick Pilet joins forces with Joerg Bergmeister (Germany) in the number 91 vehicle.

At the first two WEC rounds in Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps as well as at Le Mans, they receive backup from their factory pilot colleagues Romain Dumas (France/No. 92) and Timo Bernhard (Germany/No.91).

“We are very pleased with how the testing has gone so far,” said Porsche’s Head of Motorsport Hartmut Kristen. “Our goal is to be well prepared for the challenges of the very strong GTE class in the WEC and at Le Mans. The circuit in Sebring is very well suited to put a new vehicle through some demanding trials.

For this reason, a test in Sebring is a very good rehearsal for one of the toughest races of all, the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Until the season kicks off in Silverstone, we will conduct some final tests on other race tracks so that our new 911 RSR is well and truly ready for the World Endurance Championship season.”

Porsche 911 – Double driving fun even in snow and ice

Porsche Driving Experience in Finland

Porsche Driving Experience in Finland

Press Release 15/02/2013

911 Carrera is the ideal vehicle in all weather conditions

Double driving fun with the Porsche 911 – even in snow and ice

Porsche Driving Experience in Finland

Porsche Driving Experience in Finland

Stuttgart. Like no other vehicle, the 911 unites such seeming contradictions as sportiness and everyday usability, having stood for sheer driving pleasure for 50 years now – and not just when the sky is blue and the sun is shining but also in winter driving conditions. Against this backdrop, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that there are numerous Porsche customers in regions in which winter is the rule during most of the year.

The northernmost Porsche Centre in the world, for instance, is located in Tromso, Norway: there are loyal 911 drivers even at the Arctic Circle. In fact, in Norway alone, there are four more Porsche Centres; in Sweden are six and in Finland are three Porsche Centres available to customers.

Porsche Driving Experience in Finland

Porsche Driving Experience in Finland

Many 911 customers enjoy driving in snow and ice also in Alpine countries like Switzerland: vehicle sales have been growing there year after year. Alongside the Cayenne, the sports car icon is the most successful model in Switzerland. Last year alone, 656 vehicles were delivered to customers there. And the 911 is popular in Switzerland not only as a coupé. Cabriolets accounted for 42% of the 911 sports cars delivered in 2012.

911 Carrera 4

911 Carrera 4

No wonder: Even in cold temperatures, the driver of a 911 Carrera Cabriolet enjoys a climate comfort coming closer to that of a coupé than ever before. Thus, for instance, the external material is lined in its entirety by an insulating mat. The lateral parts are also completely covered with material so no technical components are visible any more when the top is closed.

911 Carrera 4

911 Carrera 4

The 911 with all-wheel drive, in particular, is ideal for driving in winter. The Porsche Traction Management (PTM) translates the great driving-performance potential optimally in all weather conditions. Within a split second, the optimum power distribution between front and rear axle can be controlled via a multi-plate clutch. Depending on the driving situation, this means more driving stability, a more agile handling and outstanding traction even on slippery road surfaces.

In short: Even more driving fun with more safety, especially on snow and icy roads. Because that’s where the premium on traction really shows its stuff.

911 Carrera 4

911 Carrera 4

This makes the 911 the ideal vehicle for all seasons:

“For me, the Carrera with all-wheel drive is the perfect everyday car. Thanks to its technology, it is safe for active driving on ice and snow; on the other hand, it always offers the self-assurance of a thoroughbred sports car.

Owing to its excellent all-round visibility and the storage space behind the front seats, the car is very suitable for the city and for shopping as well,” says Walter Röhrl, twice holder of the rally world championship.

Porsche enthusiasts can also satisfy their curiosity about the advantages of the 911 Carrera by selecting from the various courses and sessions of Porsche Driving Experience: At two training sites in Finland’s far north 1,350 drivers will have the opportunity to test the Porsche 911 at first hand in extreme weather conditions this winter. Beginners and advanced drivers will have the chance to expand their driving skills under the guidance of Porsche instructors and learn to control their car even better in three training steps that build on one another.

Porsche Driving Experience in Finland

On snowbound tracks and ice lakes at temperatures up to minus 30° Celsius. The rear-focused design of the all-wheel drive, typical for Porsche, offers optimal support. You will find the dates and other information on all winter offers of Porsche Driving Experience on the Internet at: http://www.porsche.de/driving-experience-winter/.

I have been working on Porsches since 1962; 911’s since 1966. In the winter of 1966-67 some friends and I bought a half a dozen engines that were badly damaged in a shipwreck off the Azores. New 911’s were being transported by sea, the ship was rammed by another, the hold flooded, the cars broke loose and the bodies were unsalvageable. But we were able to buy the engines. We tore those engines down, resurrected them and installed them in 911’s that were in need of an engine for one reason or another and also converted a couple of 912’s to 911’s.

911 engines. I was able to put my education into play as a member of a winning race team. We won the prestigious Porsche Cup, Porsche Team Cup, IMSA GTR, GT, and GTO championships along with the FIA World endurance championship. My education continues today as I help others learn about these great cars via my technical articles and books; by offering instruction through our Porsche training courses started in 1986; and by giving technical presentation lectures on Porsches and the 911 engines.

As Technical Advisor, Porsche Club of America, and Technical Editor,Excellence Magazine, I write an ongoing technical Q&A column as well as feature articles for these publications. Excellence Magazine also publishes my series of ongoing articles entitled “Porsche Market Report”.

This series reflects on the market value of various Porsche models. Additionally, I sit on the Advisory Board of N.A.D.A. Exotic, Collectible and Special Interest Cars.

Many articles I have written deal not only with Porsche technical information, but on all aspects of interest to Porsche enthusiasts including coverage of events such as the annual Porsche Parade, Speedsterfest, La Carrera Panamericana, Daytona and Le Mans races.
