US customers vote Porsche most popular vehicle brand

J.D. Power: Stuttgart sports car manufacturer in first place for the eleventh time in succession

P15_0070_a4_rgb

Westlake Village/Stuttgart. Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer Porsche enjoys an outstanding reputation with its US customers. This is confirmed by the 20th edition of the renowned ‘Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout’ (APEAL) study produced by US market research institute J.D. Power.

For the eleventh time in succession, Porsche occupies first place in the overall rankings and thus continues to be the make of car with the greatest appeal for drivers in the USA.

In the APPEAL vehicle rankings the Macan – represented in the study for the first time this year – goes straight in at number one in the ‘Compact Premium SUV’ segment.

The sporty SUV Cayenne also enjoys great popularity among US customers and in the ‘Midsize Premium SUV’ segment takes top position for what is already the fifth time in a row.

The Cayman too gained the most points in its class, taking the ‘Highest Ranked Apeal’ award in the ‘Compact Premium Sporty Car’ category.

Last month, Porsche drivers in the USA had already voted the Porsche brand into first place in the ‘Initial Quality Study’. The excellent results from both studies reflect the currently positive trend in the US market. In the course of the year to date, the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer has supplied over 30,000 vehicles to customers in the USA, thus achieving an increase of 13 per cent compared to January to June 2014.

The APPEAL study determines the appeal of vehicles in the North American market. It annually surveys around 84,000 new car owners with vehicles that were licensed between November and February.

In total, it reviews 77 features in ten categories. In addition to driving performance and design, other aspects taken into account include comfort and suitability for everyday use.

Porsche 919 Hybrid and 911 RSR are coming to the “ring” FIA World Endurance Championship WEC, Nürburgring Test Drives

Press Release 21/07/2015
 2015-lemans
Stuttgart. On Monday and Tuesday next week (27-28 July) Porsche will prepare for the fourth round of the FIA World Championship (WEC). Following its victory at the Le Mans 24 Hours, the Porsche 919 Hybrid will be driven for the first time on the Nürburgring. In action on the renowned German racetrack will be one of the innovative prototypes which, by combining a two-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine with brake and exhaust heat recovery systems recuperations, produces a combined power of about 1000bhp.

On Monday Timo Bernhard (34, Germany) and Romain Dumas (37, France) will share the testing duties at the wheel of the Le Mans prototype, for Tuesday Dumas and Marc Lieb (35, Germany) are scheduled to be in the car. The main focus of the test sessions is on preparations for the six-hour race at the Nürburgring on 30 August, as well as generally for the second half of the season with races in Austin (USA), Fuji (Japan), Shanghai (China) and Sakhir (Bahrain).

The Nürburgring-based Porsche Team Manthey will also use the testing opportunity at the “ring”. The team will test the GTE-Pro-class 911 RSR. Furthermore the Dempsey Proton Racing team, with race driver and actor Patrick Dempsey (49, USA) at the wheel, will also be testing the RSR. In Le Mans Dempsey, alongside Porsche factory driver Patrick Long (33, USA) and Marco Seefried (39, Germany), finished the race in second place in the GTE-AM class, which was the best result of his career so far.

The test days at the Nürburgring, which will also be attended by many other WEC teams apart from Porsche, are of a lot of interest for fans as well as journalists.

On both days spectators will be allowed free access to the T3 grandstand. On Tuesday members of the press are welcome in the paddock, but must apply in advance for accreditation. Patrick Dempsey, Timo Bernhard and Andreas Seidl, Director Race Operations LMP1 for Porsche, will take part in the WEC press conference on Tuesday, at 12:00 in the business lounge (segment 1) next to the grandstand.

“After the overwhelming one-two result in Le Mans we are very exited to finally be able to present the Porsche 919 on the racetrack in front or our home fans,” explained Fritz Enzinger, Head of Department, LMP1. “Our main goal obviously will be to thoroughly prepare for the six-hour race at the Nürburgring. This season’s last European round once more promises a fascinating race with the likelihood of a very close finish. From now on we are concentrating on winning the world championship and we are doing this thanks to a lot of support from our fans.”

Video: Porsche Sport Driving School in Leipzig, …You win races in your head.

Date: 15.08.–16.08.2015

at Porsche in Leipzig

our FIA-certified on-road circuit,

which is modelled on famous sections from racetracks around the world.

0857

Master RSR

Have you already developed excellent vehicle control at the Porsche Sport Driving School? Do you now feel confident on the racetrack? Are you experienced in the use of lateral and longitudinal acceleration in our road-going cars? Then you are ready for the next challenge.

0618

You can now look forward to taking the next step towards the world of motorsport hand in hand with the Porsche Sport Driving School. Our Master RSR training focuses on how to drive safely in Porsche race cars. The number of participants is limited exclusively to just 12 people.

Training takes place in the six Porsche 991 GT3 Cup vehicles provided – each one with the individual support of a Porsche instructor experienced in racing and a factory-trained Porsche mechanic.

1115

Over the course of the two training days, your instructor and a Porsche works driver will teach you the basic techniques of driving Porsche race cars. After you have become acquainted with the vehicle controls and your new surroundings, you will begin with exercises on effective braking – with or without ABS. Your instructor will help you to find the optimum brake balance. Other aspects covered on the course include how to shift gear correctly and identify the racing line. Particular emphasis is placed on optimum, yet steady acceleration out of bends – without traction control – and controlling and minimising unwanted load-changing reactions – without PSM.

Special attention is also given to safe overtaking manoeuvres and performing ‘standing’ and ‘flying’ starts. When driving laps, you should be able to find the optimum line over the entire course. In addition to the 991 GT3 Cup vehicles, participants are also provided with the latest generation 911 GT3 or 911 GT3 RS models for individual warm-up exercises.

0288

One-to-one feedback on the development of your driving skills is provided by your Porsche instructor – for this, your performance is recorded during the various stints on the circuit using assessment drives or video and data analysis. Naturally, slick tyres are used to ensure optimum performance. Rain tyres may also be used, depending on the weather. In addition to developing your driving skills, we also focus on providing you with detailed information about the vehicle, as well as the equipment required during circuit driving.
