Press Release 30/09/2015

Oliver Blume is new Chairman of the Executive Board

Stuttgart. At its meeting today, the Supervisory Board of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG appointed Dr. Oliver Blume (47) the Chairman of the Executive Board of the sports car manufacturer effective October 1, 2015. Blume succeeds Matthias Müller (62), who was appointed by the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG to be the new Chairman of the Board of Management of the Wolfsburg-based group. It has been exactly five years since Müller left Volkswagen to become the CEO of Porsche AG. Since the beginning of 2013, Blume has been a member of the Porsche Executive Board responsible for Production and Logistics.

Another new appointee is Detlev von Platen (51) who will be a member of the Porsche Executive Board for Sales and Marketing. Von Platen comes to Zuffenhausen from the USA where he was Head of Porsche Cars North America for just over seven years. The new Head of Sales will assume his new post on November 1, 2015.

On the same date, his predecessor, Bernhard Maier (55), will be reassigned from Zuffenhausen to Mladá Boleslav in the Czech Republic where he will assume the position of Chairman of the Board of Management of Škoda.

The Supervisory Board appointed the Executive Board Member for Finance, Lutz Meschke (49), as the Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board. The previous Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board was Thomas Edig, who is leaving the company at the end of September to take a position as Board Member for Human Resources at the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand.

The Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Porsche AG, Dr. Wolfgang Porsche, is especially pleased to see that

“our new member of the Executive Board and new Chairman of the Board come from within the company. Porsche not only has a highly motivated workforce, but also has a very large number of exceptionally qualified managers,” stressed Dr. Porsche. Moreover, appointing people from within the company emphasises the family aspect of the Porsche culture.
Dr. Porsche thanked the departing Chairman of the Executive Board Matthias Müller for achieving a unique balance during his five years of service.

Supervisory Board of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, reappointed the Chairman of the Executive Board, Matthias Müller, for further five years

“Under Matthias Müller, Porsche introduced ground-breaking new products,” said Dr. Porsche, mentioning the 918 Spyder supercar and the compact SUV Macan in particular. “The first-second finish at the legendary Le Mans racetrack with our 919 Hybrid technology platform was the icing on the cake,” is how Dr. Porsche expressed his great respect.

Furthermore, during the Müller era the sports car manufacturer experienced economic gains that most would not have predicted five years ago. “Porsche practically doubled its unit sales, revenue and workforce size over this time period,” said the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, and he avowed this an accomplishment that is certainly unequalled in German industry.

Uwe Hück, Chairman of the Group Works Council of Porsche:

“Ever since 2010, Matthias Müller has been the ‘turbocharger’, the driving force for great advances at Porsche. He embodies our Porsche DNA. We are not happy to see him go. But his successor, Oliver Blume, is no budding manager; rather he is in full bloom. He has the right drive technology in him, and he is a Porsche person through and through. What I value in him is his down-to-earth nature, his social-mindedness and the way in which he enthuses and rouses our colleagues. He has a big heart and he is one of us.

And I think that appointing a Production person to the top position is a strong statement. I am certain that Oliver Blume is the right choice for successfully continuing and further developing what we have built up together with Matthias Müller. If we want to follow through on our planned projects and assure our future, we need continuity.”

Oliver Blume will take the helm in Zuffenhausen in an exciting time. Porsche is investing over 1.1 billion euros in its current production sites over the next five years. For instance, a new engine plant and a new body manufacturing plant will be built at the company’s main business site. The assembly line in Zuffenhausen will also be extended.

In the future, not only will all 911 and Boxster cars come off the assembly line here, but also Cayman models starting in summer 2016. As the board member for Production and Logistics, Blume himself oversaw the extensive preliminary groundwork for this and also the setup of the shop for handcrafting the 918 Spyder and further expansion of the Leipzig plant for the Macan and full production of the Panamera. That is also why Dr. Porsche has expressed his confidence that “we have found the best possible successor for Matthias Müller considering his exceptionally high professional competence and pronounced teamwork skills.”

In upcoming weeks, a decision will be made on the successor to Blume as the Board Member responsible for Production.

Dr. Porsche also expressed his thanks to departing member of the board Bernhard Maier:

Bernhard Maier

“In 14 years, Mr Maier advanced the professionalism of the entire sales organisation and systematically drove the company’s international growth – first as CEO of Porsche Germany and then, starting in 2010, as Board Member for Sales and Marketing. Under his leadership, brand value was boosted significantly, and his high level of commitment helped Porsche to attain top customer satisfaction ratings. This has sustainably increased the brand’s appeal,” explained Dr. Porsche.

Maier took Porsche Sales to new dimensions with the successful market launches of the Panamera and the compact Macan SUV – which led to significant increases in sales and workforce figures.

According to the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, his successor, Detlev von Platen, has the greatest possible experience for seamlessly continuing the success of his predecessor. Under von Platen’s leadership in the USA, for example, he succeeded in nearly doubling the number of new vehicle deliveries from around 26,000 when he assumed his post in 2008 to the current level in this business year.

The crowning achievement of his time in the USA was the opening of the new headquarters of Porsche Cars North America this spring in Atlanta, which includes a Customer Experience Center with its own circuit track.

The date change is due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict with the World Endurance Championship (WEC) racing series.

Rennsport Reunion V ahead two weeks, we ensure that our current 919 Hybrid LMP1 and 911 RSR race teams, and more importantly, our new generation of racing heroes can join our racing
legends and be part of the festivities among our many fans.”

Porsche announces Rennsport Reunion V to be held October 2015

Hosted by PCNA, Rennsport Reunion V will, once again, bring together an extraordinary gathering of significant Porsche vintage and current racecars, as well those who have designed, engineered, and driven them to victory in the world’s most famous sports car races. The three-day program of on-track competition will be complemented by a Concours d’Elegance, which is open to invited race participants, and special activities celebrating each of the six decades of legendary Porsche racecars.

Rennsport will return to Laguna Seca – Rennsport Reunion V will, once again, bring together an extraordinary gathering of significant Porsche vintage and current racecars, as well those who have designed, engineered and driven them to victory in the world’s most famous sports car races. The three-day program of on-track competition will be complemented by a Concours d’Elegance, which is open to invited race participants, and special activities celebrating each of the six decades of legendary Porsche racecars.

This incomparable event has been held about every three years. After staging the first three rounds in the East, with the inaugural at Lime Rock Park in 2001, Rennsport Reunion IV moved west in 2011, tapping into a vast array of west coast car aficionados and Porsche enthusiasts. “While the Rennsport name from the beginning has become a staple fixture for international collectors and racers, choosing the Monterey Peninsula opened up this one-of-a-kind gathering to the many Porsche fans in California and beyond who were previously unable to attend,” said Detlev von Platen, President and Chief Executive Officer of Porsche Cars North America. “Approximately 40,000 spectators for the weekend, and a record number of race cars and participants, proved that our decision to come here was correct.”

“After that truly rare gathering of significant Porsche racecars on the West Coast in 2011, we can expect an even larger number of fans of the Stuttgart sports car icon to attend next year,” predicted Gill Campbell, CEO and general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “We are proud that Porsche will come back to our track where it has a long racing tradition, and my team and I look forward to help making this the best Rennsport Reunion ever.”

Porsche Rennsport Reunion V will assemble a wide variety of Porsche’s most historic racing models from the nimble mid-engine 550 Spyder of the mid-Fifties, through the mighty 917 and 956/962 of the Seventies and Eighties, to the highly successful 911 GT3 RSR and RS Spyder of the last decade. Special tribute will be paid to the car that embodies Porsche’s return to the top of sports car racing. The 919 LMP1 Prototype is the guarantee that Porsche motorsports – and Rennsport Reunion – have a successful future.

During Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV, approximately 1,300 Porsche Club of America (PCA) member-owned Porsche models from the past 66 years helped fill the show fields, race classes, and parking lots of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. For the upcoming fifth rendition, the PCA, celebrating its 60th year in 2015, will once again play an integral role, capping their year-long celebration.

Future details will be published on Porsche’s press website (www.press.porsche.com) and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s website (http://www.mazdaraceway.com), as they become available.

Ticket information is available by contacting 800-327-7322 or online at www.mazdaraceway.com.

Stuttgart. Factory trio of Porsche 911 RSR entered in Tequila Patrón Sports Car Showcase at Long Beach fought both the city streets of Southern California and the competition, and left retaining the lead in the Tudor United SportsCar Championship GT Le Mans (GTLM) class Manufacturer Championship point standings.

The No. 911 Porsche North America Porsche 911 RSR of Nick Tandy (Great Britain) and Richard Lietz (Austria) took the checkered flag in fourth-place with the team car, the No. 912 of Patrick Long (USA) and Michael Christensen (Denmark), fifth in class.

The race hinged on a single pit stop with approximately one hour remaining in the 100-minute race, by far the shortest race of the season. First, the No. 911 stopped and Richard Lietz relinquished the car to Nick Tandy with fresh Michelin tires and a full fuel load from their fifth place qualifying position.

One lap later, the No. 912 stopped with Patrick Long taking over from Michael Christensen who was running sixth at the time. After the rotation, the No. 911 gained one spot moving to fourth while the No. 912 did the same, moving to fifth. From the sole pit stop to the conclusion of the third round of the championship, Nick Tandy ran a mostly unchallenged race to cross under the checkered flag 27 seconds behind the winners.

The No. 17 Team Falken Tire Porsche 911 RSR with factory driver Wolf Henzler (Germany) and Bryan Sellers (Braselton, Ga.) also gained one spot on their starting position finishing eight with efficient pit work.

2014 Tudor USCC - Long Beach Grand Prix

The eighth-place follows a fifth earned during the debut of the privately entered 911 RSR at the 12 Hours of Sebring in March.

Nick Tandy: “The result is better than our pace this weekend as we improved on our qualifying position. We scored two high points places for the team and gained points back on the championship leader. It’s not a podium but it’s two cars in the top-five, so it’s good.”

Richard Lietz: “I think we did the maximum we could do. We didn’t have the speed today to stay with the guys in front of us but we did our best. I think it was positive but we need to work to find the additional speed.”

Patrick Long: “I am happy we persevered with a lot of challenges today. Fourth and fifth are not first and second but it’s a long season so we need to put points on the board. I didn’t have a radio for the whole stint so I didn’t know if the BMW was on the lead lap. I just pushed as hard as I could at the end. It was a good hard, clean fight with Bill Auberlen. Michael did a really solid job and we just made the best of what we had this weekend.“

Michael Christensen: “That was fun. Obviously, it was a little bit of a train most of the stint. That’s how it is, it’s tough to get by on a street circuit but I did my best to move forward.”

Wolf Henzler: “We have to sit down now after this race and look at what we did and what we can do better. We still need to understand the car better and how it reacts to setup changes on the Falken tire. I think we will have something better for Laguna Seca.”

Triple victory for Porsche in strongest GT field in history at Daytona 24 Hours, USA

 GT Podium

Press Release

29/01/2012

Magnus Racing, (l.-r.): Rene Rast, Richard Lietz, Andy Lally, John Potter

Stuttgart. The 24 hour race in Daytona remains Porsche territory:

At the cliff-hanger 50th anniversary of the long distance classic in Florida/USA, the Zuffenhausen sports car manufacturer celebrated a convincing triple triumph in the GT class against strong opposition from the likes of Audi, BMW, Corvette and Ferrari.

(l.-r.): Andy Lally, John Potter, Richard Lietz, Rene Rast

Victory went to Porsche works driver Richard Lietz (Austria) in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup fielded by Magnus Racing with teammates René Rast (Germany) as well as Americans Andy Lally and John Potter.

After a thrilling finale in front of record crowds on the Daytona International Speedway, Lietz saw the flag 9.412 seconds ahead of his factory pilot colleague Wolf Henzler.

The previous year’s winner from Germany shared the cockpit of TRG Racing’s Porsche 911 GT3 Cup with Jeroen Bleekemolen (Netherlands), Marc Goossens (Belgium), Spencer Pumpelly (USA) and Steven Bertheau (USA).

Scoring third place was Porsche works driver Marc Lieb (Germany) with Americans Hurley Haywood, Leh Keen and Andrew Davis in the legendary starting number 59 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup run by the Daytona-winning squad Brumos Racing.

Today we all witnessed why Daytona is one of the world’s most fascinating races,” said Wolfgang Hatz, Board Member for Research and Development at Porsche AG.

“For me that was a 24 hour sprint. The front-runners were incredibly close right to the flag. I’m very pleased to see that we had virtually no technical problems with our cars and the teams and drivers did such a magnificent job under difficult conditions.

Congratulations and well done to you all.”

Joerg Bergmiester, Patrick Long, Marc Lieb, Marco Holzer, Patrick Pilet, Wolf Henzler, Richard Lietz – Porsche Factory Pilots

Porsche’s head of motorsport, Hartmut Kristen, commented after this latest success:

“The 50th running of this classic was unbelievably exciting. For much of the time, there were ten GT cars in one lap. The spectators were again treated to some fantastic motorsport. And it’s great of course to celebrate an impressive victory in front of such spectacular crowds. The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup again brilliantly underlined its outstanding reliability at this extremely difficult race.”

With its latest win, Porsche has now scored 22 overall and 74 class wins, making it the most successful manufacturer in the history of this race.

The anniversary race of the endurance classic in Florida, at which the new Porsche 911 ran as the safety car, was stronger than ever before. In the GT class alone, 45 cars lined up to start.

“To beat so many great drivers, the crème de la crème of GT pilots, is simply awesome,” said the winner Richard Lietz.

“Winning this race for Porsche is a highlight of my career, comparable only to my two victories in Le Mans.”

His teammate René Rast, the two-time champion of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, to whom Porsche gave the chance to compete at Daytona in recognition of his excellent performance last season, said:

“Everything ran smoothly. We didn’t experience a single technical problem. That was only the second 24 hour race of my career and undoubtedly the toughest. During one of my stints I spent three and a half hours at the wheel. That was incredibly exhausting.”

In the gripping final phase, Wolf Henzler again pulled out all stops, but the leading Richard Lietz managed to stave him off to the flag.

Porsche Factory Pilot – Wolf Henzler

“He was just too quick today,” Henzler stated. “But to climb the podium again after my win last year is a huge success for me.”

With the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup fielded by Brumos Racing, which took off into the race from pole position, Marc Lieb pitted shortly before the flag for a ‘splash and dash’ refuelling stop.

Porsche Factory Pilot – Marc Lieb

Despite having led the race for long distances up until this point, he was unable to rejoin the fight for victory.

“We experienced a bit of bad luck towards the end with our race strategy,” he said. “But although I was rather disappointed initially, it’s still a great team effort to come third against such an incredibly strong GT field.”

Andrew Davis, Leh Keen and Marc Lieb – Brumos Racing

Turning the fastest race lap of the entire GT field, Porsche factory pilot Marco Holzer (Germany) turned heads at the classic on the Daytona International Speedway.

Porsche Factory Pilot – Marco Holzer

He didn’t, however, manage to reach the flag.

“Everything was running beautifully with our car until the retirement,” he commented.

“But we had a bit of bad luck under the yellow flag. Three times we came in to refuel just before a caution phase and lost laps because of it. That’s rough.”

Lady Luck wasn’t with Porsche works drivers Joerg Bergmeister (Germany) and Patrick Long (USA) either.

Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of Flying Lizard Motorsports

With the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of Flying Lizard Motorsports, which they shared with American Seth Neiman and Mike Rockenfeller (Switzerland), they were holding their own with the front-runners early on, but fell back and had to settle for 15th place at the flag.

Bergmeister/Long/Neiman/Rockenfeller (D/USA/USA/D), Porsche 911 GT3 Cup

“Early on in the race we were running in the top three,” said Patrick Long. “Our pace was very fast.

But Seth’s collision with a Daytona prototype put us out of serious contention.”

Porsche to Build West Coast Experience Center in Carson, California

New Southern California facility will be a center of excellence for vehicle and human performance education, from track experiences and driver training to car culture events

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 17, 2011  — Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) today announced it will build a second new Porsche Experience Center in North America, in Carson, California.

The purpose-built 53-acre facility and road handling course will be one of only five such sites in the world, including the original Porsche Experience Center at the legendary Silverstone Circuit in Great Britain and Centers in Leipzig, Germany and Shanghai, China.  In May, Porsche announced North America’s first Porsche Experience Center, to be built as part of the company’s new U.S. headquarters complex in Atlanta, Georgia.

The new West Coast location will be situated near the intersection of two major Los Angeles area traffic arteries, the 405 and 110 Freeways, and is just minutes from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).  Southern California is one of the largest Porsche markets in the United States.  Groundbreaking is anticipated for summer 2012.

“Helping enthusiasts feel and connect with their vehicle’s full potential through intelligent engineering has always been a part of the Porsche philosophy,” said Detlev von Platen, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America.

“Now, we are excited to turn dreams into reality for all driving enthusiasts by creating a safe, exhilarating environment for experiencing the pleasure of being in the driver’s seat.”

Given the Porsche Experience Center’s extensive lineup of facilities and programs, finding the perfect mix of education and enjoyment won’t be difficult, no matter the individual’s skill or interest level.

The centerpiece of the complex will be a world-class test track and handling course, including areas where special surfaces replicate rain, ice, and snow conditions.  These training sections include the Ice Hill, where a steep slope, computer-controlled water jets, and a low-friction surface will challenge even the most experienced drivers and help them improve their real-world skills.  A special off-road area will combine 45-degree declines and ascents – ideal terrain for unleashing a Porsche Cayenne.

Driving enthusiasts can sign up for sessions with highly trained Porsche driving consultants, while new drivers can enroll in programs that teach technique for navigating today’s challenging roadways.

The Porsche Driving Experience isn’t just for adults – special programs for kids will ensure that even young enthusiasts get an early start in the art of automobile appreciation.  Facilities, including track access, dining and conference spaces, will also be open to car clubs, corporate clients, and other special groups.

In addition to vehicle-based activities, the Porsche Experience Center will also offer programs focused on maximizing personal fitness, wellness, and athletic performance through its Porsche Human Performance Center.

This unique facility will feature a leading sports science laboratory and training programs, incorporating the latest techniques used in preparing Porsche race car drivers. Whether an individual’s competition vehicle of choice has four wheels or two – or consists of one’s own legs – the Porsche Human Performance Center offers customized experiences ranging from heat acclimation training and hydration strategies to individual wellness assessments.

Millions of residents and visitors will have easy access to the Porsche Experience Center: at LAX alone, over 59 million travelers passed through the airport in 2010.  Another 15 million consumers reside within a 50-mile radius from the facility, and even more are based within a few hours travel time by car, including Orange and San Diego counties, California and major markets to the North.

“Our mission is to help everyone who loves automobiles and car culture to experience the pure joy, the art, and the science of driving,” said James Taylor, general manager, Porsche Experience Center.

“Whether you want to experience the latest Porsche models like the new seventh-generation Porsche 911, upgrade your personal performance as a racer or athlete, or host a car club event or a product launch, we look forward to working with customers to create a memorable program.”

The Porsche Experience Center will not just be for those who drive the track.  The facility is designed for the whole family, offering a Porsche Cafe and gift shop along with plenty of trackside viewing areas.  Additional fine dining facilities will be available for business meetings and events.

The Carson, California Porsche Experience Center will be designed by several of the world’s leading architectural partners.  Atlanta-based design firm Cooper Carry has been charged with creating the buildings’ eco-friendly footprints and structures, while two of the leading test track architects and engineers in the world, Giffels/IBI and Tilke Engineering, are designing the driving facilities.

Seinfeld Joins Singer as Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV Grand Marshal for October 14 – 16 Event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey

Seinfeld Joins Singer as Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV Grand Marshal for October 14 – 16 Event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey

ATLANTA — October 10, 2011 – The man who inspired many of the Porsche race cars that will be on display at the upcoming Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV will be joined by the man who has one of the most significant collections of those cars, as Jerry Seinfeld has been named co-Grand-Marshal with retired Porsche Engineer Norbert Singer.

Seinfeld, who will bring a number of his most-prized cars to Rennsport, was honored to be named to share the Grand Marshal duties with Singer.

“Norbert Singer is one Porsche’s most brilliant innovators and someone I have always wanted to meet. I am thrilled to join him in Monterey for Rennsport IV as Co-Grand Marshal,” said Seinfeld.

Jerry Seinfeld poses with his 1955 Porsche Spyder, on display at the Porsche exhibit at the Los Angeles Auto Show, where Porsche celebrated the worldwide debut of the new 2009 Boxster and Cayman at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.  PHOTO BY © AXEL KOESTER, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED, 11/19/08.

Seinfeld’s participation is particularly appropriate as Rennsport IV is honoring the Porsche 911. Included in his collection is the first production 911 (1964) and the last production air-cooled 911 – a 1998 993 that he bought from the factory – the last 993 to roll down the assembly line.

His collection, a mixture of street cars and race cars, includes a street-version Porsche 959 (not legal to drive in the U.S.) –  one of only 200 ever built. Others include the Porsche 917K that Steve McQueen drove in the movie Le Mans, a 1959 straight-16 GT speedster; and a 1955 Spyder 550 — the same model and pearl-grey color actor as the James Dean car.

About Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV

Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV will be the world’s greatest gathering of Porsche race cars and the drivers that drove them to victory, held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca from October 14 to 16, 2011. Hosted by Porsche Cars North America, it will assemble the wide variety of Porsche’s most historic racing models from the nimble 550 Spyder of the mid-Fifties through the mighty 917 and 956/962 of the Seventies and Eighties to the highly successful RS Spyder of the last decade.

Special tribute will be paid to the numerous racing versions of the Porsche 911 and their countless victories on the dawn of what will become another milestone of this iconic sports car.

Additional details of the Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV will be published on Porsche’s press web site (press.porsche.com), and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s web site (http://www.mazdaraceway.com), Ticket information is available by contacting 800-327-7322 or online at www.mazdaraceway.com.

Porsche Owners Preparing to Descend on Monterey Peninsula for Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV

Porsche Car Corral Nearly Sold Out Five Weeks in Advance of Event

Anticipation for the first-ever West coast appearance of Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV October 14-16 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is running high.

Complementing the more than 350 of the rarest Porsche race cars competing on the track will be an unprecedented field of 800-plus Porsches staged in the traditional car corral area. The demand is so swift and the support from the Porsche Club of America so positive that an additional parking area with limited space is being designated as another Porsche car corral.

“This is the first-time a single marque has completely occupied the entire car corral area,” explained Gill Campbell, CEO/general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “The Monterey Peninsula will be a Porsche-lovers paradise, and one that will be long remembered by participants, fans, the community and local businesses.”

An impressive lineup of Porsche race and sports cars, and what quite possibly will be the largest reunion of former and current Porsche drivers will be attending. More than 50 legendary drivers will be available for autograph sessions, mingling and plenty of story-telling of their days driving the now-legendary Porsche race cars.

In addition to the already full Rennsport Reunion IV weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the Porsche Race Car Classic, an exclusive display of more than 180 of Porsche’s silver race cars from the 1950s and early ‘60s will be held on the lawns of the nearby Quail Lodge in Carmel on Sunday, October 16.

Stuttgart. Once a year, the American Le Mans Series makes a detour to Canada. On the Mosport International Raceway near the major metropolis of Toronto, round four of the race series featuring the world’s fastest sports cars takes off on 24th July.

On this demanding circuit, Porsche factory pilots Joerg Bergmeister (Germany) and Patrick Long (USA) aim to continue their strong performance with the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, with which they recently scored their first podium result of the season in Lime Rock.

The race

The Grand Prix of Mosport has been a regular fixture on the calendar since the American Le Mans Series began in 1999. It is the only race held in Canada.

The circuit

The 3.957 kilometre Mosport International Raceway with its ten corners is situated in Bowmanville, about an hour’s drive east of Toronto. It is regarded as one of the fastest and most demanding circuits on the American Le Mans Series calendar. Canada’s oldest permanent race track opened in 1961 with a sports car race that Stirling Moss won with a Lotus 19. From 1967 to 1977, the Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix was also held in Mosport.

Quotes before the race

Hartmut Kristen, Porsche Head of motorsport:

“Mosport is a track where engine performance is more important than on any other circuit. For this reason we were thrilled to hear that the rule-makers in the USA want to revise the imbalance that disadvantaged our cars. I hope that Flying Lizard and the Falken and Miller teams can continue their upward trend that they showed in Lime Rock.”

Joerg Bergmeister:

“Last year we travelled to Mosport without high expectations and we won. It’s not normally a circuit that particularly suits us and it features too many straights. But if we can manage to make everything come together like in Lime Rock recently then we might bring home a podium result. I’d be very happy with this.”

Patrick Long:

“It’s not easy making a reliable prediction for Mosport. The track is very fast, and very demanding for the driver. It’s unforgiving with mistakes. That should work in our favour. I hope we can use this to our advantage.”

Source: Porsche AG Media Database – Bob Chapman, Autosport Image

Wolf Henzler:

“The tests that we conducted since Long Beach have brought us a huge step forward. This was clearly apparent in Lime Rock. We’re now in the position to drive consistently quicker lap times over a race distance. This will also help us in Mosport. There are many fast corners there that we drive in fourth and fifth gear, so our average speed is correspondingly high. I hope that we can continue our good performance from Lime Rock.”

Marco Holzer:

“Like Lime Rock, Mosport is a circuit that I’ve never raced on. So I’ll be taking a look at the videos again to check out the track before the first practice. I quickly became familiar with the Lime Rock circuit, so I’m hopeful it’ll be the same in Mosport. With its very fast corners, the track is a real challenge. I’m looking forward to it.”

American Le Mans Series, round 3 in Lime Rock, USA-First podium result of the season for the title defenders

Porsche factory pilots Joerg Bergmeister (Germany) and Patrick Long (USA) finished second in the GT class at the Northeast Grand Prix in Lime Rock to improve their championship position.

Porsche factory pilots Joerg Bergmeister (Germany) and Patrick Long (USA)

Stuttgart. In the American Le Mans Series, the title defenders clinched their first podium result of the season at their third attempt.

Patrick Long

With the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR fielded by Flying Lizard Motorsports, Porsche factory pilots Joerg Bergmeister (Germany) and Patrick Long (USA) finished second in the GT class at the Northeast Grand Prix in Lime Rock to improve their championship position.

The race on the short 2.478 kilometre circuit in the US state of Connecticut was thrilling from start to finish.

And it began well for Porsche:

Patrick Long snatched second place right at the start and defended his position to the first pit stop and driver change.

His teammate Joerg Bergmeister, who tops the winners’ list with five victories from the last five years on this circuit, fell back just once to third place after another pit stop behind his works driver colleague Wolf Henzler, but was quickly able to regain his position.

Bergmeister went on to deliver a spirited fight for the lead, at times only two seconds adrift of the front-runner. But with three laps to go, his result looked in jeopardy when tyre damage forced him into the pits.

As always, the Flying Lizard crew worked swiftly on his number 45 Porsche so that he was able to defend his second place. At the flag only 20.387 seconds separated Bergmeister and Long from their first win of the season.

“That was a lively race,” said Joerg Bergmeister. “Today we were able to fight for victory and I’ve tried everything to continue my winning streak after five straight Lime Rock victories. Unfortunately, a puncture prevented this. Still, it was our best result so far this season. Our entire team has worked extremely hard for this.”

Patrick Long said: “I’m very satisfied. Today we have earned plenty of championship points. Because all of our direct competitors had problems, these points are especially valuable. Our car was perfectly set-up over the entire weekend. It’s a shame that we were just a few seconds off clinching victory.

Bryan Sellers drove the first stint for the Falken Tire squad.

Cleverly, he kept out of any trouble on the tight circuit, and his teammate Wolf Henzler did the rest. With an early refuelling pit stop 1:15 hours before the flag, they took their opponents by surprise and turned up in second place when the rest of the field pitted for fuel.

Wolf Henzler too had his big moments: 30 minutes before the finish he brought the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR into the pits with suspected tyre damage. Luckily, he had only picked up rubber from the track. And in the final laps, problems with the fuel pressure cost him a safe third place. He took the flag in fifth.

In the second Flying Lizard Motorsports-run Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, works driver Marc Holzer (Germany) clinched seventh at his Lime Rock premiere together with American Seth Neiman.

Marco Holzer

He was clearly pleased with this result.

“When I took over the car we were running last,” he said. “The chase was huge fun. I was able to put in very competitive times on this unfamiliar track.”

Sascha Maassen (Germany)

Sascha Maassen (Germany) and Bryce Miller (USA)

brought the Paul Miller Racing Porsche 911 GT3 RSR home in sixth place.

Bryce Miller (USA)

Victory in the GTC class went to Americans Dion von Moltke and Mike Pierce with a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

Round 4 of the American Le Mans Series is held on 24th July in Mosport/Canada.

“I was lying in fifth when my pit crew requested me to come in. But my gut feeling told me that I could do better. So I stayed out for another lap and that lap was then perfect,” said Patrick Long.

“It felt just a good as my fastest lap last year where I secured pole position. It’s just that the gap to the cars at the front is simply too big. We just can’t match their pace due to the balance of performance regulations.”

At his first start on the short and very narrow 2.487 kilometre circuit, which had only just dried up after a rain shower, Marco Holzer (Germany) clinched sixth place.

Marco Holzer

“My quickest lap was just my seventh on the dry track in Lime Rock,” he said. “We’re very pleased with this and think we’ve found a very good set-up for the race, regardless of whether it rains or not.”

American Le Mans Series, round 3 in Lime Rock, USA- Porsche pilots hope for first podium result of the season

Stuttgart. The American Le Mans Series picks up the pace.

After a break for the Le Mans 24 Hours, round three of the race series with the world’s fastest sports cars now takes off on 9th July in Lime Rock in the US state of Connecticut.

Lining up on the grid is the five-time Lime Rock winner Joerg Bergmeister (Germany). At the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Bergmeister and his Porsche works driver teammate Patrick Long (USA) are hoping for their first podium result of the season.

The race

The Northeast Grand Prix has been a permanent fixture on the American Le Mans Series calendar since 2004. Many fans are happy to travel the two and a half hours from New York City to witness the often very entertaining race. On one of the hills alongside the track stands a small church in which a service is held on Sundays. For this reason, races are traditionally contested on Saturdays.

The circuit

The 2.478 kilometre circuit in the picturesque countryside of Connecticut is the shortest in the American Le Mans Series.

The lap times are far under a minute. The surrounding grassy hills serve as grandstands, with most of the spectators bringing their own camping chairs and coolers to witness the race action.

The Porsche drivers

Joerg Bergmeister and

Joerg Bergmeister (No. 45, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Flying Lizard Motorsports)

Patrick Long, the reigning GT champions and Lime Rock winners of the last two years,

Patrick Long (No. 45, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Flying Lizard Motorsports)

contest the GT class at the wheel of Flying Lizard Motorsports’ Porsche 911 GT3 RSR.

Their works driver colleague Wolf Henzler

Wolf Henzler (No. 17, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Team Faken Tire)

shares the cockpit of the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR fielded by the Falken Tire team with Bryan Sellers (USA).

Sharing driving duties in the sister Flying Lizard 911 GT3 RSR is Porsche works driver Marco Holzer (Germany)

Marco Holzer (No. 44, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Flying Lizard Motorsports)

with American Seth Neiman.

The 911 GT3 RSR entered by Paul Miller Racing is manned by Sascha Maassen (Germany) and Bryce Miller (USA).

Quotes before the race

Hartmut Kristen, Porsche Head of Motorsport:

“The season really gets going now in USA. The last race was before the break for the Le Mans 24 Hours in April, so it’s almost like a second season-opener for the teams. If they want to look good for the crucial phase of the season, they’ll need to pull out all stops in Lime Rock.”

Joerg Bergmeister (No. 45, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Flying Lizard Motorsports):

“Lime Rock seems to really suit our car. I’ve won on this track five times in a row – that’s not such a bad track record. With 30 cars on this narrow circuit you have to concentrate totally over the whole distance, you have to use your head if you want to reach the flag in such heavy traffic without bruises. It’s always worked out well in the past. Still, a little bit of luck is always part of it.”

Patrick Long (No. 45, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Flying Lizard Motorsports):

“There are normally loads of safety car phases in Lime Rock. And no wonder with all the traffic. This is a huge challenge for our strategists. The pit stops have to be carried out quickly, the right timing can mean the difference between victory or defeat. But our boys at Flying Lizard Motorsports know how to do pit stops – they’ve proven that often enough.”

Wolf Henzler (No. 17, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Team Faken Tire):

“The track is very short, and hence the traffic is heavy. You’re constantly overtaking slower cars and you being overtaken by the faster sports prototypes. Lime Rock is not exactly a favorite of mine. But I have good memories of last year when we qualified in second in the rain. Hopefully, it’ll rain again this year. We used the Le Mans break well and tested at Road America and in Mid-Ohio. The team has invested a great deal into tyre development. That makes me optimistic for the rest of the season.”

Marco Holzer (No. 44, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Flying Lizard Motorsports):

“This is my first race in Lime Rock and I’m looking forward to getting to know another race track in the USA. The team sent me a DVD of on board footage and loads of data – so at least I can prepare myself a bit.”

The Porsche 911 GT3 RSR

The most successful GT race car of the last years takes off into the season with a raft of improvements. The output of the four-litre, six-cylinder boxer engine has increased to 455 hp (335 kW). Priority in the further development of the car was given to the newly designed aerodynamics at the front and rear. In 2010, the 911 GT3 RSR again won the environmental “Michelin Green X Challenge” classification as the GT vehicle with the best overall efficiency in the American Le Mans Series.

In the history of the American Le Mans Series, Joerg Bergmeister is the most successful driver at Lime Rock. At the last five races he claimed victory every time for Porsche in the GT and later the GT2 class.

Patrick Long was his teammate for three of these wins, Wolf Henzler once. With the RS Spyder sports prototype, Porsche celebrated three class wins on this track as well as an overall victory in 2007.

The schedule

The race in Lime Rock starts on Saturday, 9 July, at 14.05 hrs local time (20.05 hrs CEST). The GT qualifying on Friday will be broadcast on the internet on Friday from 21.45 hours CEST on www.porsche.com/alms-live.

PCNA Unveils 911 GT3 Cup Racecar Livery for Carrera World Cup Race at Nurburgring

Porsche Cars North America Unveils 911 GT3 Cup Racecar Livery for Carrera World Cup Race at Nurburgring

Winning design created by Porsche Cars North America Intern

ATLANTA – June 23, 2011 – Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) intern Anna Frey designed the livery that will appear on a 911 GT3 Cup racecar the company will campaign in the Porsche Carrera World Cup Race this Saturday at Germany’s infamous Nürburgring race track.

“I am very excited my design was selected,” Frey says.  “I have loved cars since I started attending car shows with my father when I was growing up.  The opportunity to intern at Porsche has been very rewarding and exciting. And the thought of my design appearing on a Porsche race car in front of thousands of people – and 100 other Porsche race cars – is quite amazing!”

Frey, a recent graduate of Georgia Tech, in Atlanta, GA, majored in industrial design.  Her paint scheme was selected from four final contenders by PCNA employees and won out over several designs drafted by professionals.

Introducing the Porsche employee team, selected from submitted video and written essays detailing their motorsports passion, will be on hand to capture and share the insider’s view on what it takes to compete internationally, what it feels – and sounds – like from the driver’s seat and who’s who in the world of Porsche motorsports.

American Le Mans Series (ALMS) GTC Champion Melanie Snow has been chosen to pilot PCNA’s 911 GT3 Cup racecar and will be joined by six PCNA “pit crew” employees.

Porsche: Robust Growth April Global Deliveries Up 53% On Year

Strong growth in April: Porsche reports a 53 per cent surge in customer deliveries Cayenne sales double and Panamera wins over even more buyers world-wide

FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)–German sportscar manufacturer Porsche Automobil Holding SE (PAH3.XE) said Tuesday its April global vehicle deliveries surged 53% on the year.

MAIN FACTS:

-In April 2011, customer deliveries rose to 11,741 vehicles world-wide.

-During the first four months of 2011, deliveries jumped nearly 32% from the year-earlier period.

-The new generation of the sporty Cayenne off-roader was the main driver of sales.

-With 19,175 deliveries from January to April, sales of this model have virtually doubled compared to the same period in the previous year.

-In Europe, April customer deliveries were up nearly 31% on the year.

-Frankfurt Bureau, Dow Jones Newswires; 49-69-29725-500

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, has made a good start in the spring:in April 2011, the sports car manufacturer showed an increase in customer deliveries to 11,741 vehicles world-wide.

This is a strong gain of 52.8 per cent over the same period in the previous year. Looking back on the first four months of the current financial year 2011, deliveries have jumped 31.5 per cent overall.

The main driving force behind this is the new generation of the sporty Cayenne off-roader. With 19,175 deliveries from January to April, sales of this model have virtually doubled compared to the same period in the previous year.

Bernhard Maier, Porsche AG Board of Management Member for Sales and Marketing, sees this as confirmation of the company‘s strategy:

“Every Porsche is the sportiest model in its segment. Our customers world-wide love the combination of performance and efficiency, such as in the new Panamera S Hybrid or 911 GT3 RS 4.0.”

Porsche has posted robust growth in all key sales regions. North America (USA and Canada), saw growth of 77.1 per cent in April, which is 3,495 vehicles more than the same month of the previous year. Of this, 3,172 vehicles (+ 81.5 %) were sold in the USA, which is traditionally the number 1 marketplace for Porsche.

In Europe, Porsche has reported a gain of 30.6 per cent in the fourth month of the year: exactly 3,896 more sporty vehicles were sold than in April 2010. In Germany, sales grew by 1,523 vehicles (+ 19.5 %). In Asia and in the rest of the world, sales rose by 56.5 per cent to 4,029 vehicles. China, now Porsche’s second most important market, reported continued growth; with 2,316 Porsche vehicles delivered, sales were up 48.8 per cent compared to April 2010.

The overall results for all four model series clearly reflect the positive development made by Porsche in the past month: 5,998 Cayenne models were sold, almost double the figure of the same month last year.

The Panamera as well, up 14.9 per cent with unit sales of 2,212, accounts for a significant share of Porsche’s success. In the sports car segment, the 911 almost matched the previous year’s level with 2,225 vehicles delivered (- 2.9%). Sales of Boxster series were down 8.7 per cent at 1,306 units. 762 vehicles were accounted for by the Boxster and 544 units by the Cayman.

Porsche to Build New U.S. Headquarters in Atlanta with Test Track by 2013

https://i1.wp.com/static.howstuffworks.com/gif/porsche-crest-landing.jpg

photo

New headquarters will house nearly all U.S. Porsche colleagues under one roof, including a dramatic customer experience center and test track

Porsche just gave Atlanta’s image a bit of a spit polish.

The decision to build a $100 million complex on the grounds of the former Ford assembly plant in Hapeville is not only a glitzy marketing move for the German carmaker, experts said, it is also a shiny endorsement of the city and state.

“This has marquee value,” said Don McEachern, president of North Star Destination Strategies of Nashville, a company that offers advice on reputations to cities. “It speaks volumes about Atlanta. You get the Porsche name and brand. You get the halo effect. It is nothing but good.”

And with Georgia still shakily emerging from a painful recession, Porsche provides more marketing glow for luring other companies to the area. The project will move Porsche’s North American headquarters from Sandy Springs, Ga., a northern suburb of Atlanta.

ATLANTA – May 12, 2011Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) announced it will build a new headquarters in Atlanta, the city it has called home for thirteen years.

The new complex will be located in the Aerotropolis Atlanta development site, near the brand new International Terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

https://i1.wp.com/press.porsche.com/media/gallery2/d/6329-1/Building+Designs.jpg

It will be comprised of modern office facilities for a workforce that will eventually number 400 employees, including a Technical Service and Training Center, as well as a leading-edge Customer Experience Center that will feature a handling road course to show-off the capabilities of Porsches industry-leading vehicles.

A layout of the test track planned for Porsche's new headquarters in Atlanta.

Groundbreaking is planned for this fall with the move-in date scheduled for the second half of 2013.

The unparalleled nature of the Porsche ownership experience absolutely deserves an equally unique home. That is what well create with our new headquarters – a concept completely new to the U.S. automotive industry, and one that delivers our brand and product experience to our employees, dealers and customers alike, said Detlev von Platen, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America.

Our new American headquarters will allow us to finally bring together all our major sales, after sales and financial services capacities, thus making us an even stronger organization. It also sends a strong message to our dealers and our customers that we believe in the strength of the U.S. market and its future growth, von Platen explained.

At the same time, this decision demonstrates our commitment to the State of Georgia and the City of Atlanta to remain a vital part of this vibrant region.

The decision to stay in Atlanta was the result of a thorough, more than one-year long search and evaluation process that spanned metropolitan Atlanta and several out-of-state sites. The new headquarters will not only be home to PCNA, but also to Porsche Financial Services, Inc., and Porsche Business Services, Inc. which are both currently located in Lisle, Illinois. Other Porsche businesses will also be included, building a solid foundation for further expansion of Porsches largest market worldwide.

We welcome the entire Porsche team to Atlantas newest corporate center, the innovative Aerotropolis complex, said Kasim Reed, the mayor of Atlanta. Porsches decision to reinforce its roots and grow its next-generation U.S. headquarters here is a testament to the vitality and vibrancy of our city and an exciting addition to the many iconic brands that also call Atlanta home.

The Porsche crest will be a perfect welcome sign to greet the hundreds of thousands of visitors and guests that land each day at the worlds busiest airport in Atlanta.

There’s no better place to live, work and play than Georgia, stated Nathan Deal, Governor of Georgia. As a 13-year corporate citizen of our great state, Georgia-based Porsche employees already know that once you have Georgia on Your Mind it is impossible to let go. Now we look forward to extending our famous Southern hospitality to the entire Porsche team – and to adding an incredible new destination to Georgia’s list of must-see places.

With over 25,000 cars sold in 2010, PCNA finished last year up 33 percent over the previous year. With its new headquarters, a dedicated, passionate employee and dealer body, and a strong line-up of iconic sports cars, a brand new generation of Cayenne SUVs and the latest addition to the brand, the Panamera Gran Turismo, Porsche is poised for continued success in the United States.

Groupings, Schedule of Greatest Gathering of Porsche Race Cars Released

More details and a schedule of events are listed below in the press release.

Atlanta, May 13, 2011 – Preparations for Rennsport Reunion IV continue, and Porsche Cars North America and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca today released the latest race groupings and schedules for the fourth installment of fourth installment of its historic event, to be held Oct. 14-16, 2011.

This rare occasion will reunite the cars and drivers that together have written Porsche’s motorsports history during the last 60 years on all five continents.

When Porsche Cars North America held the first Rennsport Reunion in the summer of 2001 at Lime Rock Park, it didn’t take long for the participants to realize they were sharing in something extraordinary. Subsequent Rennsports, II and III, were both held at Daytona International Speedway in Florida and built upon the original premise, remarkable racecars reunited with their equally remarkable drivers.

https://i0.wp.com/press.porsche.com/media/gallery2/d/5557-1/Renn+III+911-1.jpg

As in the past three reunions, cars will be grouped by the period in which they raced so that enthusiasts can fully focus on the different motorsports eras with their ever more ferocious machines and increasingly sophisticated technology.

All fans will have full access to both paddocks and track side to view everything from the tiny but nimble Porsche 550 Spyder through the groundbreaking 906 and 908 with their plastic bodies to the mighty 917 with over 1,000hp.

A majority of the hundreds of racecars expected will be made up by the many racing versions of Porsche’s iconic 911 model. From its rather humble beginnings as 911 TR in the mid-1960s this car was for two decades the platform of motorsports legends. Letters and numbers such as RSR, 934 or 935 to GT3 series have stood for proven winners at that time and contributed heavily to the over 30,000 victories that Porsches collected over the past 60 years.

https://i2.wp.com/press.porsche.com/media/gallery2/d/5560-1/Renn+III+917-1.jpg

Eight groups promise a jam-packed, three-day racing program with practice, qualifying and warm-up for each group.

The races will be complemented by an exhibition parade and a Concours on Saturday afternoon.

The weekend will conclude with a guest appearance of the Cayman Interseries and a race of modern 911 Cup cars for the Rennsport Reunion Trophy.
